Airport Shops

The proposed design concept is inspired by New York City’s elegant architecture, minimalist stores,  dramatic restaurants and bars, and convivial backyards.  We contrast dark materials with warm wood to create a striking and welcoming space.  Plantings bring the natural world into the often sterile world of air travel.

We created two versions of the space, influenced by different parts of the city.  The Manhattan design is a bit more refined with dark gray walls and floor, and warm wood display elements.  The Brooklyn version is inspired by a townhouse backyard with its walls that invoke fences and plants that seem like the trees beyond.  The steel display elements are industrial but refined.

Both spaces are uncluttered and calming.  The architecture is designed with authentic materials and simple forms.  These elements create a welcoming and relaxing environment for travelers.
